Course Description
The economics of allocating, financing and delivering medical care services. Cooperative course taught by WSU, open to UI students (Econ 450).
Learning Objectives
- Use fundamental economic concepts and quantitative methods of applied analysis to understand options and problems pertaining to the (US) healthcare system.
- Understand the role of utility in health and healthcare demand and consumption.
- Understand the profit motive for supply, and market failures in various provider markets, and the role of government policies.
- Understand advanced concepts such as adverse selection, moral hazard and risk sharing in insurance markets.
